ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Find the avoidable load.
Measure the change.

Turn energy records and operating conditions into a practical, funded improvement scope.

Start with how the site actually uses energy. Separate operating fixes, targeted work and capital investment, then agree how the outcome will be checked.

DECISION FRAMEWORK

Make the route
explicit.

Use a defined sequence to connect the operating requirement with the evidence, responsibilities and next commitment.

  1. 01 /

    Establish the baseline

Energy, output, hours and operating conditions.

  2. 02 /

    Identify the opportunity

    Combustion, utilities, controls and maintenance.

  3. 03 /

    Fund the measure

    Implementable scope and engineering review.

  4. 04 /

    Verify the effect

    Agreed measurements and relevant adjustments.

Conceptual scope sequence. The agreed assignment determines deliverables and responsibility.

01 /

Follow the energy into the operating duty.

Read utility and fuel records alongside production, operating hours and maintenance history. Depending on the site, the review may cover combustion, steam and condensate, insulation, compressed air, motors, controls and shutdown practices.

Identify useful interventions and the measurements they require. A preliminary commercial assessment has a different purpose and scope from a statutory energy audit.

02 /

Choose an intervention the site can sustain.

Operational measures may address scheduling, leaks, idling and maintenance. Targeted packages can include control adjustments, insulation repair, condensate recovery or refurbishment, with appropriate engineering review.

Equipment replacement or system redesign needs measured evidence of savings, reliability and remaining asset life. Prioritize work the customer can fund, implement and maintain.

ILLUSTRATIVE REQUIREMENT

A baseline needs comparable conditions.

An illustrative assessment aligns monthly energy records with production output and operating hours before interpreting a change.

Illustrative planning inputs only. These values are not company results, verified site data, equipment specifications or commercial offers.

03 /

Agree the measurement before the intervention.

Set the baseline, observation period and adjustments for production, weather or operating conditions where relevant. Evaluate post-work performance using that agreed method.

Savings-sharing or performance-linked fees require credible data and explicit treatment of factors outside contractor control. They are not appropriate for every assignment.

04 /

Use the right personnel and statutory route.

Where a statutory audit or designated-consumer obligation applies, follow the applicable SREDA requirements and use appropriately qualified or recognized personnel.

A commercial review does not substitute for this process. The application of the Energy Audit Regulations 2023 depends on the facility and assignment.

Prepare the project before the financing enquiry.

Relevant programmes, including IDCOL’s published industrial-efficiency offering, may consider eligible investments. Establish eligibility, appraisal requirements, security and available terms for the actual project.

Financing remains subject to lender approval. A credible baseline and implementation scope help define the application; they do not guarantee funding.
